Samsung Galaxy Tab second in popularity to Apple iPad

The Samsung Galaxy Tab has officially sold a million units globally in a span of merely two months since the product was introduced outside the United States plus with the four largest wireless US carriers introducing the product in their sales inventories in the middle of November. The Apple iPad , meanwhile, was able to sell a million units merely a month since its introduction into the market back in April. Still, the 7-inch touchscreen Galaxy Tab with Android platform proves that it is indeed almost as popular as its bigger-screened rival by Apple.

Most of the sales occurred during Thanksgiving, albeit Samsung is reluctant to share details on Galaxy Tab purchases. A spokesperson for the company meanwhile confirmed that worldwide sales had indeed reached a million units sold. Individual carriers say that sales of the Galaxy Tab proved a great deal of positivism, but likewise refused to divulge on detailed sales figures for the product. Still, the 9.7-inch touchscreened iPad is dominating much of the tablet market, having sold at least 4 million by the end of Apple’s fourth quarter which was fell on the last day of October.

Business analysts suggest that over 8 million Apple iPads have been sold to date since its introduction into the tablet market, which is quite impressive despite most of that period falling way before the holiday season. Meanwhile, the partnership between Samsung and Google’s Android mobile is proving to be the biggest winner with such an unexpected success with the Galaxy Tab. Meanwhile, individual carriers are also selling Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphones as part of Samsung’s campaign to enlarge its clout in the US.

The future of notebooks

It seems that notebooks are getting thinner and thinner these days. When Apple introduced the MacBook Air it instantly became a hit. I am a huge fan of it and love the thinness. Then came the iPad, which also revolutionized the industry.

Couple of weeks ago the Steve Jobs, the founder and CEO of Apple, had a presentation and asked the audience “what would happen if an iPad and a MacBook Air hooked up?” The result is the new MacBook Air. This would be very interesting, basically imagine a Laptop that has touchscreen capabilities. There has been rumors of the new MacBook Air with screen sizes of 13.3 inches and 11.6 inches respectively. While the new MacBook will have many upgraded features, such as better battery life, that is not the subject of our article.

So it seems that the future for laptops will be to get thinner, offer longer battery lives and more features and making the touch sensitive screens a standard.

Caring for the eyes

As the world rushes to get connected through online avenues, there is an ever-growing trend of gadget and device innovations that enable people to connect faster. And as the world grows smaller, more and more of people’s time are devoted to endless hours of looking at monitors, whether small or large, and thus put a huge strain on their eyes. Optical health is an essential part overall well-being, for without proper eye care, a person’s virtual profile may soon be cut short or made into a nightmare.

To prevent eye ailments, online users have to take note of several guidelines to help take care of their eyes. Number one on the list of care tips is knowing how to customize a person’s immediate environment. It is highly recommended that a person use larger monitors or screen magnifiers to put as little strain on the eyes as possible. A person should also sit closer to the computer on a chair that has ample back support to minimize neck strain. When in doubt, comfort should be the main goal of environment customization.

Lighting is the second most important factor. There has to be a balance on brightness. Too much brightness will cause eyes to be overexposed, while inadequate brightness will cause the eye to be strained just to be able to see what’s in front. Desk lamps should not be aimed directly at a person’s eyes, and should instead be aimed at the desk. Windows should be located to a person’s sides, instead of front or back to likewise prevent over or underexposure. Finally, the monitor must be positioned to prevent reflections from occurring.

wells fargo technology banking extends 1b line of credit

Norton Antivirus Maker and Wells Fargo Pair Up for Economic Tag-Team Wrestling

(NYSE: WFC) Wells Fargo & Company, one of the largest commercial banks in the United States, has opened up a $1 billion dollar line of credit for Symantec, the creator of Norton Antivirus and associated Norton software.

Wells Fargo & Company has announced that they are ambitious about their new focus on the technology industry and wish to pursue a long-time business partnership with Symantec as a primary client.

Symantec is reportedly using the $1 billion dollar line of credit for “general corporate purposes”, though it is speculated that much of this credit will be going towards the development of new server technology that Symantec will deploy worldwide, from which Wells Fargo & Company will mutually benefit. Wells Fargo & Co. uses Symantec-branded servers with top-notch security to store client banking information.

“Symantec is a forward-thinking technology corporation that places a high importance on nurturing strong customer relationships,” said Ben Hosgedo, spokesperson for the company.

Wells Fargo & Co. has embraced the deal with open arms after Symantec was listed as one of the most progressive technology corporations in a recent Forbes survey.

Wells Fargo & Co. purportedly has good relationships with many technology corporations, but sees Symanetec as one of their strongest allies in the corportate world.

“If not for Symantec’s amazing security and server technology, Wells Fargo would not be where we are today,” says Hosgedo proudly, “We look forward to expanding upon this relationship, nurturing it, and using it to benefit both of our companies for the better.”

Facebook ‘frenemies’ most likely to hurt kids

According to an international Norton Living Online report, 62 percent of kids between the age of eight to seventeen have had a negative online experience whether it is due to cyber bullying, accessing inappropriate content, providing sensitive personal information or loading computer viruses on their systems.

And the truth is that “peer pressure”, as it always has been, is influencing these kids to flout Facebook age restriction rules and sign up with the most popular social network, unbeknownst to their parents.

And while most 10-year olds want to be as cool as the 18-years olds who are constantly talking about happens on Facebook, this leads to them being more susceptible to cyber bullies or sexual predators in the form of pedophiles as well, according to police and teachers.

Since they don’t understand the impact of sharing important personal information online, despite lying about their ages, they obviously do not have a clue about the dangers and the negative experiences that lie in wait for them, as they go online.

And while it is most distressing that parents aren’t concerned about internet safety, and how it can impact their children, internet safety advocates and child psychologists consider this to be one of the most ‘unaddressed public health issues of our time’.

And so, internet safety can only be enforced by parents, in constantly monitoring the activities of their children when they are online, in heeding the warning of teachers and principals of schools as well as the police, all in the best interests of their children.
